ZOMBIE WANDA JUMPSCARE?! Cliffhanger Ending? | Marvel Zombies Review + Full MCU Rewatch Announcement

Mackenzie Season 4 Episode 2

Send me a text!

Welcome back or welcome to the Pickle Jar!!

I'm back! Sorry for the long hiatus (again), but we're still rocking and rolling with Season 4 of What's the Dill?!

Today, we are reviewing the NEW Marvel series, Marvel Zombies. This series was created by Zeb Wells, and it brings back some of our favorite Marvel characters to fight in the zombie apocalypse. This series is an expansion of the popular Marvel What If? episode where they introduce the zombie apocalypse universe.

In this episode, we talk about the characters, the plot, and discuss the cliffhanger ending with zombie Wanda's jump scare. I also have a special announcement regarding a full timeline order rewatch of the MCU!

Mackenzie:

Okay, I hope that worked. Let's pray. I really, really hope that this records. It's been a while since I've done this. Last thing I need right now is for this to not record.

Mackenzie:

Hey y'all, welcome back or welcome to the Pickle Jar. This is What's the Dill? I'm your host, Mackenzie Pickle. Man, that feels good to say. We're just gonna pretend like I haven't been gone for a few months. Um, still season four, still reviewing stuff, still busy as ever, trying to come out with some new stuff. But today I thought I would take some time to review a new short series that just came out. If you're a Marvel fan, then you know this. Marvel just recently released a short series called Marvel Zombies, and that's what we're gonna be reviewing today.

Mackenzie:

So, Marvel Zombies, from what I understand, is sort of an extension from an episode that came out in the Marvel What If series. And Marvel What If, you know, is all these things that are literally what if when the whole multiverse thing came out, it's like different universes where different details of certain stories were changed and things like that, and it's what would have happened if this would have happened, you know. And there was a zombies episode that talked about, you know, a zombie apocalypse, and it was very popular. There's also a comic. So Marvel decided to release Marvel Zombies, which goes further into the whole what if there was a zombie apocalypse type of thing. I just sat down and watched the entire thing. There's four episodes that are roughly about 30 minutes a piece, and honestly? Wow, I'm impressed. I'm not gonna lie to you, I did not go into it expecting what I got, if I'm honest. No, I didn't think it would be bad. I liked the what if series. I never finished it. It wasn't like, oh my gosh, this is the most amazing thing ever. But you know, it was fun, it was cute. But holy cow, the story throughout Marvel Zombies... It's just four episodes. That's what keeps amazing me. The storytelling and the details throughout, the flow of everything is so magnificent to me. I thought the flow was incredible, and at the end of every single episode, I was hanging on the edge of my seat. It was so good. But I'm just gonna run through each episode really quickly. We have some other business to take care of after this review. So let's dive in, shall we?

Mackenzie:

Episode one, very first episode, starts out. I immediately thought Young Avengers, because we see Kate Bishop, we've got Riri Williams, we've got Kamala Khan. Like, these are characters who are kind of forming the Young Avengers. You know, back when all these series started happening, people were piecing together Young Avengers. What are they gonna do? Are they gonna do it this way, this way, this way? And so it's kind of cool to see Marvel Zombies start with these three characters already on a team together, like defeating these zombies. Zombie Hawkeye, love. And I love that you still have sort of this relationship between Kate and Hawkeye, even though Hawkeye is a zombie, and he is trying to unalive her. You can still see the respect though that she has for him in the way that she is holding on to this trick arrow in the car, like that she has a little moment. I do want to say I did love the animation right out from the start. It's similar to what they've done already in What If, and I really I enjoy that animation style a lot. The Friday mention and the Tony Stark mention love. Zombie Carol and Icarus fighting? That was something; I did not expect to see Icarus. I was like, okay, Eternals mentioned, thankfully, because they never get mentioned anymore, frankly. So it was kind of nice to see at least one eternal. I have to also talk about this quote. When Riri is, you know, telling Friday to go save Kamala and Friday goes to return back to Riri. She says this quote and it genuinely brought tears to my eyes. She says, "I lost my first owner, I won't lose another." And she's referring to Tony Stark. And that that ruined me for sure, actually. Yeah, I was not expecting that, and I did not need that actually right now. Also, Blade Knight mentioned hello. I was losing my mind, okay? I was so thankful. He is so cool. More on that later. But Yelena and Alexei and Milena all together, stop. The fam's all back together, except I was missing Natasha. Like that, that did bring some sadness, but I did like to see at least some of that family unit all together. And then Wanda, you're joking. Zombie Cap was a really good little like cameo. I love. And the fight between him and Alexei, stop. But I have to say, Zombie Ghost, insane. Hello. When Ghost came out, I was losing it. That was awesome. It was incredible. Blade is also iconic. Like every fight sequence of Blade, Blade's character as a whole is just incredible. And I loved Blade in Marvel Zombies. By far one of the coolest additions.

Mackenzie:

Episode two, you know, we see Katy and Shang-Chi. I was super excited to see them back because again, that's another, you know, Marvel project that we haven't seen anything from in a while, you know? Even if it was an animated series, you know, it was still good to see them again. And a kind of a reminder that there are all these moving pieces that hopefully in the MCU canon, they are gonna bring back together. I'm assuming so, especially with this whole multiversal saga. I mean, we we got Wen wu and Agent Woo, Baron Zemo and John Walker. Like, what is happening? First of all, it was just like banger after banger after banger after banger, everybody. There was a lot going on in episode two. We were introduced to a lot more people, but I have to talk about Yelena's sacrifice. This is like a a trope, sort of throughout the whole little miniseries. You know, Riri sacrifices herself, and then you've got Melina. Melina tells Alexei, you know, go on, whatever. And so then Alexei tells Yelena, we have to keep fighting, you know, for her type of thing. And then episode two, Yelena sacrifices herself, tells Alexei you've got to keep fighting. And then we have episode three ends up Alexei turning into a zombie, and Kamala does not want to fight him and is very distraught. And she says to him, you know, like I'll keep fighting for you, whatever, kind of thing. So it's kind of like passed down. It's really sweet and touching.

Mackenzie:

Episode three, we see Peter Parker and we see Scott, the floating head with uh Doctor Stranger's cloak. Like that was a great little like moment again. Like I was, I had totally forgotten about that. I love that they brought that back. And then T'Challa, y'all, I was losing my mind. And one thing with T'Challa that I deeply admire and respect is T'Challa does not speak in the animation that we see. Peter Parker is telling a story, and Peter mentions that T'Challa says this or T'Challa said that, whatever, but he's like paraphrasing what T'Challa said. And I love the fact that they didn't hire somebody to be the voice actor for T'Challa. It sort of, to me, gave a nod in remembrance to Chadwick Boseman. The fact that they didn't make T'Challa speak and have someone else speak for this character that we all know as Chadwick Boseman, to me, is another way of honoring his legacy and honoring him as a person and him as that character because he really transformed that character and was the perfect Black Panther. I just I thought that was really, really well done that they didn't just try to hire somebody. Because yes, I know there's variants, you know, even the guy voicing Peter Parker isn't Tom Holland, you know, he's not MCU Peter Parker, but most of the other characters are voiced by their MCU actor. I mean, Elizabeth Olsen is in this, Florence Pugh's in this, Paul Rudd voices his, you know, like all that, whatever. But I'm just, I'm thankful that they didn't try to get somebody because Chadwick Boseman did voice T'Challa in What If season one. It's just really sweet that they didn't try to replace him. We still sort of have that silence and reverence for him and how he portrayed that character. Also, I do have to say, like, Zombie Thanos is frightening, terrifying. The Thor Groot Rocket Infinity War entrance, amazing. It was a little bit of a plot twist, though, for sure. I wrote in my notes, he is inevitable indeed about Thanos. And then, of course, we've got Valkyrie, Wanda's tricks that she plays on the As gardians and on Valkyrie. That was that was really well done. I loved that little twist. And then, of course, like I mentioned, Alexei turns into a zombie. It's very sad. Thor helps them, incredible. Love him. Nova Corp?, I can't stand Nova Corp, okay? Like, I, when they were like, Nova Corp's coming to help, I was like, bro, I don't know about this. And of course, they try to destroy them.

Mackenzie:

And then you have episode four. We're already at episode four. The portals, dude. I wrote, yeah, saving the world. Let's go. Let's go. Love saving the world. I have to bring up... There's a scene of, you know, all of them getting together now and they're like fighting the zombies and fighting Wanda's whole crew, whatever, trying to protect the Hulk that is holding all of the Infinity Stone's power. I'm still a little unsure. Was that like Hulk Hulk? I know they said like Bruce Banner was a good guy or something. They mentioned was and they're like was. I was still a little confused by that. I'm guessing it's just Hulk and like Bruce is gone. I don't know. The scene where Blade is like swiping the sword and the sword goes across his face, and like in the blade of the sword, you see Khonshu. Dude, I freaked out. That scene was so good. Chills. I got chills. I was like, this is iconic. It was so cool. Zombie Thor, terrifying. I'm just gonna read you these last three notes that I have for episode four. All caps. Yo, what? Second note. For real, save the world. Third note, all caps. Yo, it's like WandaVision, a fake world, OMG, OMG, OMG. The ending of this show is very well done. I love the cliffhanger. I love that you just see Kamala with her friends and she's like reliving the whole zombie apocalypse, and they're like, What are you talking about? And the little flashes of seeing the zombies for real and seeing that what she's seeing is not her actual reality, all that stuff. Of course, the jump scare of Zombie Wanda at the end is like, oh my gosh, like it actually did scare me for a minute.

Mackenzie:

Going back and thinking about it, Zombie Wanda, when she's pretending to be like healed Wanda or is healed Wanda, I don't know. She keeps mentioning, like, we, I need your help to save us and bring the world back to normal or what it used to be or whatever. It's literally like she's not actually trying to heal the world, obviously. We knew that's a lie, but I'm like, she's using Kamala's powers to be able to strengthen her own like reality shifting, morphing, whatever you call that, of pretending and like having a mask over what's actually happening. It was pretty cool. But seeing Riri, like, is Riri still alive for real? Or is that like, I don't know, see? It ended on a cliffhanger. We don't know. I love that though. I love that they didn't give us an answer, and I love that it's kind of creepy and unsettling. I loved it.

Mackenzie:

Overall, I thought it was incredibly animated and the storytelling was so good. And the emotion, really well done. I was honestly, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, and I love seeing these characters interact that we necessarily haven't seen interact. I really don't have any notes. I thought it was fun, I thought it was creepy, unsettling, I thought it was emotional, and it was really action-packed. You know, if I'm gonna rate it, I think I'll have to give it probably like a three and a half out of five. It was good, it was solid. I don't really have any notes, but I don't feel like ranking it higher. But go watch it. It's really fun. I mean, it doesn't take that long, it took about two hours, I think, to watch the entire thing.

Mackenzie:

I have an announcement. I am going to be partaking in something that is going to take a lot of time, and I want you to join me. As we all know, Avengers Doomsday comes out in December 2026. We also have Spider-Man Brand New Day. I'm I'm not forgetting about that. I want to watch the entire MCU before Avengers Doomsday in timeline order. Now, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, because it has embraced the multiversal saga, more than just what is like this is MCU, is part of the MCU now. Like the X-Men are part of the MCU. So I compiled a full list of the order that I am going to do, and I would love for you to tag along with me. Before I read the timeline order that I'm going by, I'm gonna let you guys know. One, these will be separate from my seasons on What's the Dill? I'm still gonna be doing What's the Dill, still gonna be reviewing movies and TV shows. Like season four is gonna continue, but this MCU rewatch, think of it like a branched timeline. Season four of What's the Dill and all the other seasons are the sacred timeline of What's the Dill, right? We go by seasons and we take breaks, whatever. The MCU Rewatch timeline is like a branched timeline. It's gonna be its own playlist, its own entity. It will not be on a consistent basis because there are both movies and shows. They take different amounts of time to watch. So it'll be like I watch something, I make an episode, I post it. Not every week or whatever. I hope that makes sense. As we get started, you'll see what I mean. I would love for you to do this together with me. I'm about to talk about the timeline order, but I'm going to be posting the timeline order and all this information on my website, www.mackenziepickle.com. So definitely go check that out if you want to see the full list and everything. I'll have the link in the description on YouTube, and it is also on the podcast networks, whatever you know, site you're watching this off of or whatever it should be. If not, it's www.mackenziepickle.com. I also made a binge clock marathon. I will also link that.

Mackenzie:

Here we go. MCU timeline order. It includes X-Men and Spider-Man. It does not include the X-Men 97 show. I did not put that in. This is already a very long list. Okay. This is the order of how things are. The first episode that I'm going to be putting out in this MCU timeline order of talking about everything is going to be covering Agents of Shield. Now, Agents of Shield happens later on in the timeline. However, season seven of Agents of Shield, they end up going back in time to 1931, I believe. So it is technically first in the timeline order. That is. So as I'm reading this, you will hear different Agents of Shield episodes going through. Just know that it is chaotic. I know it's chaotic. We will get through this together.

Mackenzie:

The order goes Agents of Shield season seven. So they go back 1931 to 2019. Then Captain America: the First Avenger. One shot: Agent Carter. Agent Carter season one. Agent Carter season two. Fantastic Four: First Steps. Now this is set in the 1960s, but it's like a futuristic 1960s. Then we have X-Men First Class. And just a note, we are gonna discuss the X-Men further once I read the rest of this. I- we're here, okay? The X-Men timeline is also crazy. X-Men First Class, then X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which is primarily set in the 1970s. X-Men Days of Future Past. This is where it gets dicey. It's both in 1973 and 2023. Then X-Men Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix, then Captain Marvel, which is 1995, then X-Men, then Spider-Man, the Sam Raimi universe, then Spider-Man 2, then X2, then Spider-Man 3, then X-Men The Last Stand, then we get to Iron Man, which is 2008. Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, One Shot: The Consultant, One Shot: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer, Thor, The Amazing Spider-Man, which is Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man. Avengers, One Shot: Item 47, The Wolverine, Iron Man 3, One Shot: All Hail the King. Agents of Shields, season one, episodes one through seven. They take place in 2013. Thor the Dark World. The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Agents of Shield, season 1, episodes 8 through 16. Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Agents of Shield, season 1, episodes 17 through 22. Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy 2. I Am Groot Seasons 1 and 2, Daredevil Season 1, Jessica Jones Season 1. Agents of Shield, Season 2, Episodes 1 through 19. Avengers: Age of Ultron. Agents of Shield Season 2, Episodes 20 through 22. Ant-Man, Daredevil Season 2, Luke Cage Season 1. Agents of Shield Season 3, Episodes 1 through 10. Deadpool. Agents of Shield Season 3, Episodes 11 through 19. Captain America: Civil War. Agents of Shield Season 3, Episodes 20 through 22. Agents of Shield Season 4, Episodes 1 through 8. Agents of Shield Slingshot. Agents of Shield season 4, Episodes 9 through 22. Iron Fist Season 1, The Defenders Season 1. Spider-Man Homecoming. Then Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, which is in an alternate timeline, but they've said that it takes place probably right around the events of Captain America: Civil War. The Punisher Season 1, Black Widow, Doctor Strange. Agents of Shield Season 5, Episodes 1 through 19. Black Panther, Jessica Jones season 2, Inhumans Season 1, Luke Cage Season 2, Iron Fist Season 2, Daredevil Season 3, The Punisher Season 2, Jessica Jones Season 3. Runaways Season 1 and Season 2, Cloak and Dagger Season 1 and Season 2, Thor Ragnarok. Runaways Season 3. Agents of Shield, Season 5, Episodes 20 through 22. Ant Man and the Wasp, Avengers Infinity War. Agents of Shield Season 6, Deadpool 2, Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse, Avengers Endgame. Agents of Shield Season 7 Finale. The New Mutants, Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse, Wand avision. Loki Season 1, Loki Season 2, which those technically take place out of time, but you know they start from the events of- You get it. Okay, you get it. This is the best I could do, okay? This is definitely not perfect.

Mackenzie:

Okay, so after Loki season 2, we have Shang-Chi : The Legend of the Ten Rings, Deadpool and Wolverine, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Spider-Man Far from Home, Spider-Man No Way Home, Eternals, Hawkeye, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Moon Knight, Black Panther Wakanda Forever, Echo, She-Hulk, Miss Marvel, The Marvels, Thor Love and Thunder, Iron Heart, Werewolf by Night, Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, Ant Man and the Wasp Quantumania, Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Secret Invasion, Agatha All Along, Daredevil Born Again Season 1, Captain America Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and Logan. Then we have the other two series that are completely out of time and they don't really exactly fit into like a certain time slot. Marvel's What If series and Marvel Zombies, which we just covered Marvel Zombies here. Yeah, that's the entire timeline order that I'm gonna be going off of.

Mackenzie:

Back to the X-Men timeline situation. They say that there's a certain way you should watch the X-Men timeline. I don't know that I'm gonna do this, but I did want to put this in there just so you guys understand. I put it exactly based on what years they take place. That's why it is the way it is in the full timeline order that I just explained. But we have the OG timeline or the prime timeline, and then you have the revised timeline, which is post days of future past. So this is how most people say you should watch it. The prime timeline is X-Men First Class, X-Men Origins Wolverine, X-Men, X-2, X-Men The Last Stand, The Wolverine, and X-Men Days of Future Past. Then the revised timeline is X-Men First Class, X-Men Days of Future Past, X-Men Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix, Deadpool, Deadpool 2, the New Mutants, Logan, and Deadpool and Wolverine. Now, Deadpool and Wolverine technically takes place before Logan, but the events of Logan help make Deadpool and Wolverine make more sense. If that makes sense.

Mackenzie:

Like I said, all this information is going to be on my website, www.mackenziepickle.com. I really hope that you will do this MCU rewatch with me. I'm going to be making multiple episodes. Um, and I will tell you guys the official runtime for this whole thing. If you were to watch everything in that timeline that I just told you, no breaks, no ads, no bathroom breaks, no anything, it would take you 21 days, 11 hours, and 38 minutes. It's a lot. But we can get it done, especially before Doomsday. I believe in us, okay? I believe in us.

Mackenzie:

The very first episode of the rewatch that's gonna come out is MCU 01. We're gonna talk about all of Agents of Shield. I don't know if it'll be next week, maybe the week after. Gotta finish the entire show first. Keep a lookout for that. We're gonna talk about it. And then don't worry during the whole timeline, rewatch, whatever, I will sprinkle in reminders about what's happening in Agents of Shield once we get to the years. Don't you worry. We will do this together. I'm gonna be trying to piece together the timeline as we review everything as well. So wish me luck. Wish us luck. It's going to be chaotic and it might be too big of a task to conquer, but we're gonna do it together and we'll either go crazy together or we'll succeed together, but at least we get to watch some Marvel together.

Mackenzie:

Anyways, that's all I've got for you today. Pickle's Pick is Hopelessly Devoted to You. I love Olivia Newton- John.
